Sincerity

Never regret anything you have done with a sincere affection; nothing is lost that is born of the heart.”
Basil Rathbone

One day I read an article that stated, “show sincerity instead of sham.” Some synonyms of sham include fraud, deception, and pretense. As I pondered the contrast between these two words, I asked myself if I was being sincere in all of my interactions. And, to be honest, this is a very difficult task.

Showing sincerity means being genuine and having trust in who we are and what we believe. This means acting the same when things are running smoothly as well as when things are chaotic. Sincerity is doing things the right way even when no one is paying attention, following through with what we say and promise, and simply being honest in all of our interactions. Despite the difficulty of fulfilling the statement of “showing sincerity instead of sham,” I believe it is important we all commit ourselves to it.

Being sincere is an important attribute, because it can soften the heart of an angry family member, touch the heart of a struggling friend, and motivate the heart of an unmotivated employee. So, are we being sincere in all of our interactions? Think about it. Being sincere is crucial to being a leader as it builds confidence in your friends, family, co-workers, and employees. And most importantly, it builds confidence in yourself. Commit today to showing sincerity instead of sham!
