Unlocking Potential (part 2)

“It is important to remember that we all have magic inside us.”
J.K. Rowling

As human beings we have the capability of accomplishing great things. In fact, our possibilities are unlimited. Think of the great people of the past who went up against insurmountable odds and came out victorious: George Washington, Albert Einstein, Jackie Robinson, and many, many more. All of these people realized the potential they possessed and accomplished great things. They were committed and determined to be successful regardless of what the world said. Now here is the secret: these people were no different than you and me. Are you ready to unlock your potential? The following are some suggestions that will help as you strive to unlock your full potential.

1. Begin with Desire

So how do you overcome complacency and truly unlock your full potential? It begins with a desire. You gotta want it! If you don’t want it or if you don’t feel the fire in your belly or the stirring in your soul, then you may not be ready. You must want to do it before you can actually do it because the road to success is not easy.

2. Know Yourself

Once you have the desire, a good next step is knowing who you are. You must know what you are passionate about, what drives and inspires you, and what are your strengths and weaknesses. Be honest with yourself as you self-assess. Find ways in which you can rekindle your fire and motivate yourself when times are difficult. Determine your beliefs, your dreams, and your goals. Think about what you want to become, and then make a plan to reach your ultimate destination. This is important as you establish a vision, set benchmarks, and set deadlines. To unlock your full potential, you must know all about yourself!

3. Build Confidence

Third, you need to build your confidence. Confidence comes from being true to yourself and what you believe in. Confidence comes from striving daily to meet your goals. Confidence comes from consistency in action, word, and deed. Confidence comes when you know who you are and where you are going. Develop a road map for your life and plan at the beginning of each day to determine what you will specifically accomplish that day to grow closer to your ultimate goal. Believe in yourself and know how to push out feelings of doubt.

4. Keep Thoughts Positive

Unlocking your potential is linked to controlling your thoughts. Negative thoughts will only set you back and hinder your ability to reach your potential. On the other hand, keeping your thoughts positive will have the opposite affect on you. Believing is achieving! Try focusing on what you want and have strategies to overcome bad thoughts such as listening to your favorite song or reciting a favorite quote. Controlling your thoughts and keeping them positive is key to unlocking your full potential.

5. Be Stubborn and Fully Committed

Often we don’t reach our goals or our potential because we give up or give in too easily. Once you’ve decided you want to unlock your potential, don’t turn back, give in, or quit. Make the decision from the beginning that you will not surrender. Stay focused and be stubborn! Do not take quitting as an option, and do not let outside influences negatively persuade or deter you.

Determination and persistence are keys to your success. Realize now the road will be rough and you will make mistakes. However, unlocking your full potential is a marathon that is won step by step. Use setbacks as an opportunity to re-motivate and recommit yourself to your goals. Remember, you’ve already determined to be fully committed to unlocking your potential and there is no looking back. Quitting is not an option.

Also, find ways to remind yourself of your commitment by listing your goals in places where you will see them often throughout the day. This will always keep them fresh in your mind. Being committed will inspire you to achieve greater things and will help you unlock your true potential.

Conclusion

I believe the potential inside each of us is beyond perhaps even our wildest dreams. Thus, we need to believe and then act. Striving to unlock our full potential will cause our inner fire to burn. As we tenaciously work towards unlocking our potential, we will accomplish great things!
